AgreenaCarbon is a Carbon Payment Programme that enforces a co-funding mechanism for farmers and landowners to transition towards sustainable and climate-friendly agricultural practices.

Thanks to our proprietary and certified methodology, integrated into our digital platform, we capture data to quantify, monitor and verify Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reductions and removals on field level.

The programme issues CO2e certificates based on changes in agricultural practices towards regenerative practices, which includes minimised tilling and optimal use of cover crops, residues and organic fertilization etc.

All quantified GHG reductions and removals are verified by a 3rd party before the certificates are issued annually after harvest and completed verification.

AgreenaCarbon's model for quantifying emission reductions is designed under the ISO 14064 standard, and the methodology is based on IPCC guidelines (The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), and last but not least, the CoolFarmTool – the leading GHG quantification algorithm in Europe.

How does it work?

When entering the programme, the participants are asked to provide a set of data about their fields and descriptions of their current cultivation practices, based on which we calculate the emissions of their practices before entering the programme.

The participants then define a strategy for their transition to regenerative practices to quantify an estimate of their reduction potential. Here, farmers can get advisor support to choose the best practices by contacting Agreena. They can also choose to work with their own advisor, who can create an advisor profile on the AgreenaCarbon platform.

By continuously updating their fields data throughout the harvest year, we can then refine our calculations and submit their effective reductions for certification, which are 3rd party verified.

At the end of the year, we issue CO2e certificates (one (1) certificate represents one (1) ton of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e)) which they can choose to keep or sell through our platform.

As our programme aims at long term climate-friendly changes, we follow the participants over 5 to 10 years, thus allowing them to both improve their economical and environmental sustainability.
