Disclaimer: This article was published on the 9th of August in 2022 and may therefore not be 100% accurate in the future.

On the 15th of August, our latest methodology version will be live on the platform! You will notice the updates in the “field strategy” and “field actuals” forms. Most of the changes will run behind the scenes, while a few will be visible on the platform as well.

Read below how the new methodology will influence the earning potential of different practices and what you should expect to see differently on the platform.

Changes in calculations and earning potential

Methodology 2 is based on the updated emission factors from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change: IPCC’s 2019 Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories.

In the table below, you can see which agronomic practices will have an updated earning potential under Methodology 2:

Changes in the user interface

You will notice that some units of measurement have been changed (e.g. for crop protection). This was done in order for us to register your data in the most accurate way.

Here are the changes you will see on the platform once you start filling your field actuals or field strategy:

Easier fertiliser input

1. Organic fertilisers

For organic fertilisers, you will be asked to choose the product you are planning to use from a list of 20 nitrogen fertilisers and to indicate the application rate in kg/ha. The list will also include the percentage of nitrogen in each product to make it easier for you to choose the right one:

Note: If you cannot find the exact product you are looking for, choose the one from the list that is the most similar to the one you are looking for. If you are unsure, contact us and we will help you.

2. Synthetic fertilisers

If you use synthetic fertilisers, you will only be asked to indicate:

  • The nitrogen application rate (kg/ha)

  • The phosphorus application rate (kg/ha of P or P205)

  • The potassium application rate (kg/ha of K or K20)

  • If you are going to apply nitrification inhibitors and, if yes, on how much fertiliser you are going to use it (kg/ha)

Moreover, you will not be asked about the fertiliser application method anymore.

Crop protection

You will not be asked to input the number of doses under each type of crop protection anymore, we will ask you to share the application of the product in kg/ha. If it's easier, you can input the data in L/ha, as we assume that 1 L = 1 kg in this case.

The four types of crop protection that you choose from will be:

  • Pesticide

  • Herbicide

  • Fungicide

  • Insecticide

Catch crops

As mentioned above, you will have the possibility to indicate the use of catch crops under the cover crops adoption question.

Seed treatment

The question “has the seed been treated?” will be removed to simplify the data input process.
